We are pleased to announce that nominations for the 2022 International Society for Artificial Life Awards are now open! In order to have a diverse and representative list of nominees, it is important that we get nominations from within the ISAL membership and without. We would therefore appreciate it if you could share this announcement widely.

Awards are given out in the following categories:

  • Lifetime Achievement Award: to recognize an individual who has made profound contributions to the field of Artificial Life, influencing the work of many others and helping to shape the state of the art.
  • Distinguished Early Career Award: to recognize an individual who is early in their career (typically pre-tenure), but has already made important contributions to Artificial Life.
  • Exceptional Service Award: to recognize an ISAL member who has provided exceptional service to the field of Artificial Life by, for example, helping to organize the Artificial Life community, developing valuable resources, or facilitating administration of ISAL.
  • Education and Outreach Award: to recognize the authors of an outstanding project that either teaches about Artificial Life or uses Artificial Life techniques to teach about another topic, or inspires users to learn more on their own.
  • Outstanding student publication: to recognize a student or postdoc for a paper or publication that they published while a student; any researcher who is still a student or within approximately three years of graduation. This award will be judged by a committee organized by the ISAL student group, ERA (Emerging Researchers in Alife).
  • Outstanding publication of the decade 2007-2017.
  • Outstanding publication of the year 2021.

Please take a few minutes to nominate the researchers you admire so that they can be formally recognized for their achievements. For your information when considering nominations, a list of past winners is available.

Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of judges, and awards will be presented at the (virtual) 2022 Conference on Artificial Life in Trento, Italy (18-22 July, 2022).
