The\n International Society for Artificial Life is pleased to confirm the \nwinners of the 2019 ISAL Awards. The awards were presented to recipients\n during the 2019 Conference on Artificial Life<\/a> in Newcastle, U.K.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After a nomination process open to all members of the broader \nArtificial Life community, three committees reviewed the nominations and\n made recommendations that were then approved by the ISAL board of \ndirectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The awards and 2019 winners are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2019 ISAL Award for Lifetime Achievement in the field of Artificial Life<\/strong> 2019 ISAL Award for Distinguished Young Investigator in the field of Artificial Life<\/strong> 2019 ISAL Award for Outstanding Paper of the Decade 2004 – 2014<\/strong> 2019 ISAL Award for Education and Outreach using Artificial Life<\/strong> 2019 ISAL Award for Exceptional Service to the Artificial Life Community<\/strong> Our sincere thanks to the volunteers who reviewed these nominations and recommended the winners to the ISAL board of directors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition, the ISAL student group, ERA (Emerging Researchers In \nALife) presents the Outstanding Student Publication Award, which is \njudged by a committee organised by ERA. The 2019 winner is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For\n an individual who has made profound contributions to the field of \nArtificial Life, influencing the work of many others and helping to \nshape the current state of the field.<\/em>

Prof. Chris Adami<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
For\n an individual early in their career (pre-tenure) that has already made \nimportant contributions to the field of Artificial Life. <\/em>
\nWinner:
Dr. Arend Hintze<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
For\n an influential paper published in any venue from five to fifteen years \nago (2004 through 2014) that has had a profound impact on the field of \nArtificial Life.<\/em>

The evolutionary origins of modularity<\/a>
\nJeff Clune, Jean-Baptiste Mouret and Hod Lipson

For\n the authors of an outstanding project that either teaches about \nArtificial Life or uses Artificial Life techniques to teach about \nanother topic, or inspires users to learn more on their own. <\/em>
